CIRED WG 2023-1 Flexibility in Distribution grids with a large share of distributed energy resources

The CIRED Working Group is pleased to publish its Final Report on Flexibility in Distribution grids with a large share of distributed energy resoruces, dated 12 January 2026.

This report provides a comprehensive overview of the current landscape and future outlook for DER flexibility in electricity distribution networks. It explores key concepts, operational frameworks, and practical approaches for enabling and integrating flexibility services in support of secure, efficient, and sustainable grid operation.

The report also highlights major challenges and opportunities linked to market development, regulation, interoperability, and coordination between system operators and flexibility providers. It reflects the collective work and expertise of the CIRED Working Group and aims to support stakeholders across the electricity sector, including DSOs, regulators, policymakers, aggregators, technology providers, and researchers.
